About Ronald Frink, AIA
Ron founded his practice, Ronald Frink Architects (RFA), in 1994 after years of experience with the prestigious corporate firms of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) in Chicago and Los Angeles, William L. Pereira Associates and AC Martin Associates, both in Los Angeles. Overall, Ron offers a broad range of experience and leadership in the design, planning and execution of significant corporate, institutional, commercial, residential and urban planning projects with his RFA Team. Combining his undergraduate modernist design education for the Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois, graduate studies for the Masters of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning at UCLA, professional mentoring by outstanding professionals, Ron brings his unique contemporary design aesthetic to the tailored designs within the context of his clients and their projects.
Those prior associations included such key roles for Ron, such as the Senior Urban Planner, opening the Arabian Gulf planning/urban design office in Doha, Qatar for William Pereira Associates and leading the definitive urban design and initial implementation of the New Doha and Um Said Master Plans. Later as an Associate Partner/Senior Designer at SOM Los Angeles, Ron designed projects such as the Playa Vista headquarters of Hughes Aircraft Company and the Eastern Operations Center of Savings of America in Charlotte, NC, and the Torrance headquarters of American Honda Motor Company; and subsequently as the Director of Design/Senior Associate at ACMA, Ron designed the Shanghai headquarters for China Shipbuilding, the Worldport LA International Center in San Pedro, CA and the historic renovation and seismic strengthening of Los Angeles City Hall.
Under Ron’s direction, RFA has planned and designed a diverse and successful range of projects for corporate, commercial, institutional and custom residential clients. Institutional and entertainment projects include: the historic renovation with new additions for the Geffen Playhouse with the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater in Westwood Village was a challenging adaptive reuse design as new live theater complex. Multiple projects for Warner Bros. include: WB Retail Stores - Worldwide Distribution Center in Baltimore, MD, WB Domestic Theatrical Distribution in Encino, CA, WB Digital Studio and WB Online Studio in Burbank, CA and the renovation master plan for the historic Pasadena Playhouse.
Significant corporate and commercial projects for RFA include the headquarter offices of Manulife Wood Logan in Stamford, CT, the Purcell Murray showroom and distribution center in Huntington Beach, CA, corporate office parks for the Pasadena Corporate Park, the Arbors of Thousand Oaks, the mixed use business campus of Havenpark in Rancho Cucamonga, the LEED certified office complex of Lakeshore Plaza at Dos Lagos in Corona, CA and the new Pacific BMW car dealership in Glendale, CA.
Key private custom residences designed by RFA are completed in various locations including Santa Barbara and Montecito, CA, Weston, VT and Whitehawk Ranch, CA. Current custom residential projects include designs of private hilltop residence in Malibu, three custom residences in the Pacific Palisades and a serene country retreat near Ojo Caliente, New Mexico.
As listed in our page on “Awards/Publications,” multiple RFA projects designed by Ron with his RFA Team have been recognized with local and national awards, as well as, publication in domestic and international books and professional magazines.
